This month brought another milestone for our summer house in Aegina: the back side of the fench is finally complete! 🎉
It may not be the most glamorous part of building a home, but it’s one of the most important.
Our house sits proudly on a hill — something we love for the views and the breeze — but that also means we need to be extra careful when it comes to protecting it from heavy rainfall. And if there’s one thing this winter in Greece has taught us, it’s that extreme weather is becoming the new normal. Many homes across the country experienced flooding, and we certainly don’t want to take any chances.
So this phase was all about prevention and protection rather than beautification. The fench ensures that no water accumulates around the house, no matter how intense the rain might be. Better safe than sorry — or as we say here, better safe than regret.
Of course, part of me was dreaming of jumping straight into creating a lush green paradise around the house. But sometimes the less exciting work has to come first. With the drainage in place, we can now move toward the beautiful part: planting, shaping the outdoor areas, and slowly bringing to life the garden I’ve imagined for so long.
It may come later than my dreams expected, but it will come — and now, with peace of mind.
More updates soon from our little hill in Aegina 🌿🏡✨
