Every home has its milestones. For my summer house in Aegina, the next big one was the fence.
Yes ā a beautiful balcony is great, but without some kind of boundary, it still felt like a house without borders. And honestly⦠how can you really call it a home without some frame around it?
This was also the moment I had to make one of my biggest compromises so far.
Iāve always dreamed of a classic Aegina stone fence ā the kind you see all around the island, warm and earthy, perfectly blending with the landscape. That image has lived rentāfree in my mind for years. But dreams come with price tags, and sometimes the ābudget realityā taps your shoulder gently⦠or not so gently.
So I went with something simpler. As simple as possible, actually.
And you know what? It still turned out really nice. Clean, neat, and exactly what I needed at this stage.
Because the truth is: having dreams is wonderful ā but being able to finance them is even better.
And hereās the part Iām secretly proud of: the first section of the fence (I need three in total!) was completed within six months of the house delivery. Less than six months!
Tell me thatās not a little personal success on its own.
One milestone at a time⦠and this house on Aegina is slowly becoming everything I imagined ā with a few smart compromises along the way.
